Conservation Club's inaugural meeting this Saturday
Warwick The newly formed Conservation Club will have its first meeting on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Village Hall. Mayor Michael Newhard formed the club, consisting of high school age kids all the way through to senior citizens, in an effort to understand the changing landscape here in Warwick. “We plan to look for activities that may include mapping nature corridors in the village,” Newhard said. He also mentioned looking into a program that would re-vegetate the stream that flows through Stanley-Deming park. “We’re just looking for ideas.” After last year’s study on the Wawayanda walkway that defined the village’s green belt and showed the prevalence of wildlife in our backyard, along with the village taking ownership of the Lewis Woodlands and the 12 acres it received from Leyland, Newhard thought this would be an ideal time to start a conservation club. The club will be reaching out to other groups as well, including the Warwick Garden Club and the Interact and Environmental Clubs at Warwick Valley High School. This Saturday will be the first meeting for the Conservation Club, which will continue to meet on the first Saturday of each month at Village Hall. For more information, call Newhard at 986-2031.
