College news: Graduations, dean's lists and transfers

    Warwick - Word keeps coming in to The Warwick Advertiser about the academic successes of area college students. Here’s the latest: • Benjamin Cass of Warwick has graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Metropolitan Campus located in Teaneck, N.J., which a bachelor of science degree in business management. • Julia Ann VanTieghem of Warwick has graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie with a bachelor’s of art degree. VanTieghem majored in music and psychology and graduated with general honors, department honors in both music and psychology and with Phil Beta Kappa achievement. • Ronald George Marschall of Pine Island has graduated from the State University of New York College of Technology at Delhi where he received an associates of science degree in electrical construction and controls. • Matthew Pratt-Hewitt, a 2002 graduate of Warwick Valley High School, has graduated with high honors from New York University, Tisch School of Arts, majoring in film and TV production. While at NYU, he interned at the BBC in London as well as at Revolution Studios in New York City. He wrote and directed the one-act play, “S,” at the Producer’s Club II in Manhattan. Pratt-Hewitt also is the receipient of the Tony Hawkins Award for Excellence in Radio Drama. In addition, he served as production assistant on “Perfect Stranger,” starring Bruce Willis and Halle Berry, currently in post-production. Currently, he is fund-raising for his thesis film, “Invisible Forces,” shot entirely on location in Warwick. Those interested in contributing for on-screen credit may call 845-986-4342. The film will be screened at film festivals later this year. • Lee J. Fothergill, assistant professor of mathematics at Mount Saint Mary College, recently received a doctorate in mathematics education from Columbia University. Fothergill’s research focused on exploring ways that college mathematics faculty can help prepare mathematics education majors for the challenges of the classroom. The Bennington, Vt., native has a master’s degree in teaching and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from SUNY Plattsburgh. Fothergill and his wife, Doreen, live in Sterling Forest with their two children. • Christopher T. Chelsen of Pine Island, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the State University of New York at Albany where he is studying accounting. He is the son of Dee and Roy Chelsen.
