Celebrating independence

    Beginning this weekend, many communities will be celebrating America’s independence with parades, fireworks and other events. Here’s the rundown of those events: New York Goshen • Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1. Great American Weekend. All-day activities at Village Square include live entertainment, hayrides, a rock wall and 150 arts and crafts vendors. For more information, call 845-249-7741. • Saturday, June 30 through Wednesday, July 4. Grand Circuit Racing at the Goshen Historic Track. Races start at 1 p.m. $3 admission, children 12 and under are free. Greenwood Lake • Saturday, June 30. Classic Car and Bike Show, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CVS parking lot. Performance by the Rockland County Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Lake Beach. • Sunday, July 1. Arts and Crafts show on Windermere Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., parade at 2 p.m. and fireworks on the lake at dusk. Monroe • Tuesday, July 3. Independence Day Celebration at Mill Pond. Starts at 6 p.m. Food and live entertainment. Fireworks at dusk. Port Jervis • Wednesday, July 4. Reading of the Declaration of Independence at Riverside Park. Procession starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by live entertainment and fireworks at dusk. Chester • Saturday, July 7. Fireworks display at Carpenter Field. Starts at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. Bring your own lawn chairs and blankets. West Point • Saturday, July 7 (rain date July 8). Independence Day Celebration. Concert featuring the United States Military Academy Band at 8 p.m. in the Trophy Point Amphitheater. Fireworks at 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Anyone 16 or older is required to have I.D. New Jersey Vernon • Saturday, June 30. Fireworks at Lounsberry Hollow Middle School. Start at 8 p.m. Sponsored by the Highland Lakes and Vernon Township Fire Departments. West Milford • Tuesday, July 3 (rain date July 7). Fireworks Celebration at Jungle Habitat. New format includes a pre-fireworks concert by “The Ablemen.” The concert begins at 7:15 p.m. followed by the fireworks.
