Castle Point - Everything about it was classy. There were antique and classic autos, Theresa Bogdanski’s classic food, Lil Blaikner’s banjo and Gary Wanamaker’s classic Dee Jay comments. Since 1989 the Orange County Antique Auto Club has been joining forces with the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post #16, from Pine Island to cruise across the Hudson and provide several hours of food and old-fashioned entertainment for the veterans at Castle Point. Chairman of this year’s event was the Auto Club’s Bill Majewski. He had lots of help from the members of the club, as well as the members of the Polish Legion. Approximately 50 veterans were present to admire the 19 cars and trucks that were on display. Those veterans, together with the Castle Point staff led by recreational therapy assistant Maureen Walsh voted for the three classiest cars. First place went to Majewski’s brilliant red 1962 Ford Fairlane Sports Coupe. The second-place trophy was presented to Lee Cook who displayed his red 1967 Ford Mustang convertible. Dante Denardis’ 1936 black Ford Coupe took a close third. George Slover’s white 1936 Ford pickup was also a beauty as were the other vintage vehicles. Classy get-together for a deserving and appreciative group of Castle Point veterans. Even former Advertiser editor and long-time booster of the event Stan Martin joined the effort.
