Warwick —The Warwick Valley Transportation Department recently hosted the Buster Safety Team on a visit to the local elementary schools. Buster the robotic school bus allows the district drivers, Carol Mindnich, Cathy Hynes, Renee Moraczewski, Ginny Schafer and Elizabeth Peters, the ability to train students in school bus safety. The group spent 35 minutes interacting with students in kindergarten through third grade, to ensure all our children are safe when riding a school bus in Warwick. It is much easier for children to learn when they are allowed to participate with Buster in the school environment. The following guidelines were reviewed: • How to safely wait at the bus stop • What to do when the school bus lights are flashing • Why not to eat or drink on the bus • A review of the danger zones around the bus • How to safely board and disembark After the program, students received handouts and a parent letter. Parents are encouraged to take a minute to reinforce the importance of bus safety with their children, as safety is everyone’s job.
