Warwick - In 1999, when Emanuel “Manny” Piazza first opened his eyeglass store, “A Pair of Shades,” on Railroad Ave., his business had already been well established as one of the top discount sunglass and eyeglass sites on the Internet. A Pair of Shades is still thriving under the same name on the World Wide Web but recently, Piazza moved his local retail shop from Railroad Ave. to 25 Elm Street in the Mitchel Corners Shopping Plaza. The store, now renamed Warwick Optical, opened at its new location on May 1. “We changed the name,” said Piazza, “because we are now a full service optical store.” He explained that Warwick Optical would continue to offer the same large selection of discounted prescription and non-prescription eyewear. In addition, however, Warwick resident Carol Phelan, a licensed Optometrist, will be available to perform eye examinations including glaucoma testing and to issue prescriptions. Besides running a full-time business, Piazza, who prefers being called “Manny,” is also a New York City Firefighter. As such, he is especially interested in offering special services for public servants including fire fighters and police officers. Piazza and his wife Kathleen have lived in Warwick for 15 years. They have three children: Nicholas, 12; Brian, 10 and Michael, 9. In 1984, following a long family tradition of being involved in the eyeglass industry, Piazza became a licensed optician. “Our goal,” he said, “is to provide our customers with the best quality in eyewear along with the lowest prices. The most important thing we can do is to be honest and to make certain that every customer is happy with their glasses.” Warwick Optical carries a complete line of designer eyewear including Oakley, Maui Jim, Native and other top name brands. There’s a new Pediatrician in town and the kids will ask their parents, “When can we go for our next check-up?” Dominic Berlingieri, MD, FAAP, recently held a Grand Opening of his new office in Suite Three at 3 St. Stephen’s Lane in Warwick. In an extraordinary display of friendship and support, his relatives, friends and neighbors had volunteered their time and talents to remodel the entire office. Dr. Berlingieri, affectionately known to his patients as “Doctor B,” is a Board Certified pediatrician and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is now affiliated with St. Anthony Community Hospital. The main attraction for the young patients at Warwick Pediatrics, however, may not be Dr. Berlingieri’s impressive credentials. It’s probably Play Station 2 or children’s movies shown on a flat screen TV in the waiting room. An important attraction for those about to become parents, however, is a free pre-natal consultation. Warwick Pediatrics is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call 987-7800. Calling all artists . . .
