Warwick - Mount Peter’s Great American Ski and Swap Sale is this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 20 to 21. The Ski Barn of Paramus, N.J. will return with special deals on new equipment, clothing and accessories on both days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. And for those with limited budgets or fast-growing children, the annual Great American Ski Swap will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have something that you would like Mount Peter to sell, drop it off no later than this Saturday, Oct. 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Great American Ski Swap is run by the Mount Peter Volunteer Ski Patrol, and serves as its annual fund-raiser. There is a $2 fee for each item dropped off, and a 20 percent commission on each sale. Sellers can pick up their checks or unsold equipment between 3 and 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. On next Sunday, Oct. 28, Ski Barn will hold an after-sale sale. This Sunday, Oct. 21, is also the last day to purchase a $179 unlimited season pass. Mount Peter will begin taking photos for season passes on Oct. 20 and will be open for photos 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day afterwards. Photos must be taken before mid-December. Nice gesture The Inkwell at 46 Main Street, Warwick, and David Bartnowski, of Whispering Estates,are using “SailFast” wristbands made from used sails to help fight cancer. “ Recently,” said Carol Bartnowski, owner of The Inkwell, “our friend Sharon DeGraw, was diagnosed with lymphoma. It is with her in our minds and hearts that we decided to sponsor this fund-raiser.” The “SailFast” wristband, she explained, demonstrates support in the fight to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. “Here is one thing you can do for Sharon and others,” said Bartnowski. “Purchase a “SailFast” wristband.” Each wristband sells for $5. The goal is to raise $1,500 on behalf of Sharon DeGraw to help her and others battling blood cancers and to join the effort to find cures. Jubilate, a co-ed choir of children and youth in grades five through twelve, will be singing at the Warwick Farmers Market this Sunday, Oct. 21. The choir is formed through annual auditions, and rehearses weekly at Christ Church. Rehearsals are supplemented with education in music theory and history. According to its Web site, the repertoire emphasizes traditional church music, including service music, chant and anthems, both ancient and modern, and is enriched by modern sacred and secular music at the discretion of the director. On Saturday, Nov. 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., JUBILATE also will be hosting a “Voice Raising,” the group’s first fund-raiser, at the Barn at Spring Brook Farm, across from Penning’s Store on South Route 94 in Warwick. The musical take on a barn raising will feature live bands, including local Irish favorites Emish; singer/songwriter Elyssa Leonard and her ensemble; and Peter Holmgren. JUBILATE will make a special musical appearance, and guests can enjoy wine, cheese, desserts and coffee donated by some of Warwick’s finest restaurants. The public is invited to stop by for refreshments. This year, Frazzleberries will be featuring favorite restaurants and local artisan kitchens including the Iron Forge Inn, Hudson Valley Homestead, The Pine Island Spice Company and Lisa’s Cookie Shop. Two locations Behrooz Ghorbanian and his wife, Sussan Chakamiar, owners of Silken Wool, 56 Main St., are planning to open another shop in the spacious facility vacated by The Liquor Store of Warwick at 36 Main St. The two stores on Main Street, will enable them to expand their product lines and offer additional items for local shoppers, explained Chakamiar. Candidates Michael Sweeton and Penney Steyer will debate on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Warwick Valley Community Center, 11 Hamilton Avenue. Chris Mele, from the Times-Herald Record will moderate. To date, panelists posing questions are Ron Nowak, Greenwood Lake News, Linda Smith, The Warwick Advertiser and Frank Truatt, WTBQ Radio.
