Business notebook: Dressing for success

Warwick - Warwick resident Barbara Sullivan is a busy lady. She now owns and manages three businesses under one roof at her Interiors Plus showroom in the Meadowcrest Building on Route 94. In addition to Interiors Plus, a long established interior design business, Sullivan owns “Life Seminars for Woman,” an organization designed to educate women by providing speakers who are professionals in their fields. Last year, Sullivan also set aside a portion of her store for “Hip & Chic,” a women’s boutique featuring a variety of clothing, gifts, accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, hair accessories and bath and body products. All of these businesses have one thing in common. They appeal to women clients. And at least twice each year, Sullivan offers her facility to host a fund raiser benefiting a charity of particular interest to women such as an event held last year for breast cancer research. On Thursday evening, Sept. 20, from 6 - 9 p.m., Hip & Chic, in cooperation with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, invites everyone to an exciting evening in support of “Dress for Success Worldwide.” Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization with the stated mission to advance low-income women’s economic and social development and to encourage self-sufficiency through career development and employment retention. “This wonderful organization,” said Sullivan, “promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.” The first 25 people to reserve a place for the upcoming event will receive an exclusive personalized cosmetic makeover by one of six professional Bobbi Brown artists. Guests will also be treated to a live cosmetic demonstration and a roaming Fall fashion show. The suggested donation for the event is $25. Sullivan added that in addition to cash donations, “Dress for Success,” also welcomes gifts of clothing such as business suits or handbags and jewelry that would be appropriate for a job interview. She also requests that anyone interested in attending this event call 986-4344 or e-mail: intplus@warwick.net by Sept. 17. Main Street Gallery reopens Warwick’s popular artists’ gallery, formerly known as The Gallery at Port of Call and now the Gallery at The Country Life, 40 Main St., has recently reopened with a show titled, “Bounty,” featuring the works of Hudson River Valley Artists Jennifer Lanne, a painter, and Jill Wiener of Earth Girl Pottery. This show and two upcoming shows at “The Country Life Gallery” are hosted by Earth Angels, which is described as, a whimsical gallery of artist - made creations. “Bounty celebrates the rich and textured harvest of the Hudson Valley,” said Jen O’Connor, show hostess and owner of Earth Angels. “We are grateful to Ken and Debbie Kroslak for remodeling this gallery in their new store so that we can continue to feature the works of local area artists.” O’Connor currently represents more than 40 artists. The Gallery at The Country Life is now showcasing more than 180 original paintings and more than 80 pieces of pottery, all from the local area. The public is also invited to a Gallery Reception scheduled for Saturday, September 15, from 2-7 p.m. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the participating artists.
