Business notebook: Celebrating anniversaries and poinsettias

Warwick - Anniversary. How many people can say this? “I truly look forward to going to work every day,” said Mark Scott. Scott is the owner of The Copper Bottom Restaurant, 162 North Main St., in the Village of Florida. And he recently celebrated his second year ownership of the popular eatery by inviting his loyal customers and friends to a complimentary dinner. Guests of honor included former U.S. Congressman Ben Gilman and 14-time Grammy Award-winning “Polka King” Jimmy Sturr. The Copper Bottom was already considered one of the areas best restaurants when, on Nov. 15, 2005, Mark Scott, the former drummer and front man for the rock band, “Trixter,” and his wife, Susan, took over as new owners. Scott was not without experience. He had been director of sales for a large company that operated numerous restaurant and entertainment complexes. And he held on to his experienced staff. That, plus a friendly personality, marketing experience, rave reviews and generous contributions to worthy community fund raisers and other events earned the restaurant all but guaranteed success. “I’m so proud of my staff,” said Scott. “From the front of the house to the back of the house. I certainly couldn’t have done this without them. We’re a family doing what we love.” The Copper Bottom offers patrons a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. The ambiance includes tables set with burgundy and white table linens; on each wall candles are lit in small copper lanterns creating a warm glow. The restaurant is well known for its excellent food and service. And it does have real copper pots and pans, bowls, vases, and even a great copper bar top. The Copper Bottom is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4:30-9 p.m. On Fridays it remains open until 10 p.m. Dinner is served on Saturdays from 5 - 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 3 - 8 p.m. Call 651-5700 or visit www.TheCopperBottom.com Chamber notes The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce will showcase one of Warwick’s major businesses, the General’s Garden at Techni-Growers, 177 Sanfordville Road, at its Thursday, Dec. 6, Winter Garden Mixer. The event, 5:30-7 p.m., will feature refreshments, a raffle and the chance to judge the “Best of Poinsettia.” Business owners and managers are invited to join chamber members for networking and fellowship. The cost is complimentary for Chamber members and $10 for non-members. For more information or to make a reservation, call the Chamber office at 986-2720. Free wine on Ladies Night’ Every Thursday evening, it’s “Ladies Night” at the Pioneer Restaurant, 49 Oakland Ave., Warwick. While they enjoy their dinners, the ladies will be offered a complimentary glass of wine, and according to chef/owner Paul Karas, it’s not ordinary “house” wine. “Just like the Black Angus prime rib, choice steaks and other foods we serve,” he said, “our Columbia Crest wines from the State of Washington are more expensive and of much better quality than you might expect to receive as table wine in other restaurants.” Karas explained that by paying more for his products, including a delivery of fresh, not frozen, fish twice each week, the end result is a more satisfying dining experience. “Starting out with high quality meats, fish and produce,” said Karas, “makes a big difference when your dinner is served at the table.” The restaurant’s menu features daily specials and also offers catering services. The Pioneer’s policy is to purchase local produce in season and it supports local artists by featuring exhibits of their artwork for patrons to enjoy throughout the year. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day except Monday and Tuesday. Breakfast is served on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and there is also a Sunday brunch until 2 p.m. For information or reservations call 986-6500. Free parking Sunday, Nov. 18, was the opening day for downtown Warwick’s annual celebration of “Home for the Holidays.” The celebration is designed to present downtown Warwick as a fun and convenient place to do all your holiday shopping. In keeping with the holiday season, the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce is once again decorating the parking meters. And in cooperation with the Village of Warwick, there is free parking from now until Jan. 1. Residents and visitors can also look forward to visits from Santa, horse and buggy rides, men’s night out, ladies night out and a few surprises. Last Friday evening, Nov. 23, the Warwick Fire Department held the traditional Christmas tree lighting at Lewis Park along with a surprise visit from Santa. On Sunday, Dec. 9, Santa will again be visiting in his sled at the Railroad Green from noon to 3 p.m. Each year, the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce and member realtors sponsor this event, which includes photos with Santa, and a Horse & Wagon ride through the downtown area. Call the chamber office at 986-2720 for more information.
