Brother and sister run well at area races

On Sunday, Oct. 7, Andrius and Mahal Alvarez-Backus of Florida competed in the NJ Striders Cross Country meet in Mahwah, N.J. Running in his first cross country race, Andrius was the second boy in the 1,500 meter race for 7 and 8 year olds in a time of 7:34. Mahal won the 3 kilometer race for nine- and 10-year-olds in a time of 13:00. The next day, taking advantage of a day off from school, they both won their age divisions at the Sugarloaf Fastest Kid on the Block fifty yard dash contest.
