Bridging the gap between preschool and elementary school

Goshen — Everything Grows Childcare and Learning Center hosted an informational parent meeting, entitled “Helping your preschooler be successful in their elementary school years and beyond.” The invitation was extended to Goshen preschools, which included GAPNS, Helping Hands Preschool, Goshen Area Childcare and Learning Center, and The Early Learning Center (formally Pius). Daria Murphy, principal of Scotchtown Elementary School in Goshen, was the guest speaker. She spoke to the parents about kindergarten readiness, and tools to help parents guide their young children toward a successful school career. “Our goal is to partner with the elementary schools to bridge the gap between preschool and children entering kindergarten. There are a lot of misconceptions about what parents think their children should know, and what the elementary schools would like them to know,” said Charisse Canterino, owner of Everything Grows. “Our hope is to continue this important relationship between preschools and elementary schools, to ensure all children have the tools they need in preschool to help them succeed in the next big step, elementary school. Their success in kindergarten is vital in giving them the self-esteem needed to lay a strong foundation as they continue their school careers.” Everything Grows Childcare and Learning Center is a state-licensed childcare center offering services for ages six weeks to five years, and a summer camp for children ages six to nine. The center offers morning and afternoon sessions for three- to five-year-olds from September to June. For more information, call 651-1350.
