Brian Ahearn Children's Fund hosts eighth annual golf outing May 26

Warwick - One recipient wrote: “Your gift came along as if it were sent down on angel’s wings.” The Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund will host its 8th Annual Golf Outing at the picturesque Crystal Springs Golf & Spa Resort in nearby Hamburg, N.J., on Friday, May 26. The event marks the start of the organization’s 2006 fund-raising campaign to continue to assist local families in need. More than 250 golfers participate each year. Unlike many charitable organizations, 96 per cent of all contributions made to the Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund go directly to families in need. The fund has assisted more than 125 local families by distributing more than $340,000. In 1998, Brian Ahearn, 13, the son of Warwick residents Jeff and Kathy Ahearn, lost his battle with cancer. The community, which had been praying against all odds for a miracle, was saddened but soon united to support his family and the Children’s Fund they had established in his name. Today the fund provides assistance to families who are experiencing various hardships such as serious illness of a child, death of a parent or guardian who provides support for the family or those who suffer natural disasters. Past local recipients include a 10-month old girl with liver cancer, a six-year old girl suffering from a brain tumor, a family with three children left homeless from a fire and a teenager seriously injured in an auto accident. Tickets for the May 26 Annual Golf Outing are $175 per golfer and $60 for those who only wish to attend the dinner/dance. The deadline for registration is May 1. For information on registration or sponsorship opportunities call Jeff Ahearn at 986-9017 or Mike Conklin at 986-0362.
