BOCES receives $250,230 federal grant
GOSHEN Rep. Sue Kelly, R-Katonah, and Orange-Ulster BOCES recently announced that they will be receiving a $250,230 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Kelly said that Orange-Ulster BOCES will receive the federal assistance through the Foreign Language Assistance Program. Congress created and annually funds the initiative, which provides federal grants to establish, improve, or expand innovative foreign language programs for elementary and secondary school students. “It is very important to consistently bring federal support from Washington back to our local schools here in the Hudson Valley,” Kelly said. “This federal assistance helps Orange-Ulster BOCES carry out its important efforts to bring an increased foreign language curriculum to local elementary and secondary school students.” Orange-Ulster BOCES is one of only 71 educational agencies nationwide to receive a foreign language assistance grant. Orange-Ulster BOCES also is slated to receive the grant again in 2007 and 2008. The exact amount won’t be determined until those years, but BOCES will be eligible for up to $300,000 annually.
