Blood donors get N.J. Nets tickets
New Windsor Anyone who successfully donates whole blood or platelets at Community Blood Services’ New Windsor Donor Center on Saturday, Oct. 20 will receive two complimentary tickets to a NJ Nets basketball game. Donors can donate at the New Windsor center, 575 Hudson Valley Ave., Suite 206, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Giving our volunteer blood donors Nets tickets is our way of saying thank you to them for taking time out of their busy days to donate and give the gift of life,” said Manager Anita McCroskey. McCroskey said Community Blood Services needs about 250 volunteer blood donations a day to meet the needs of all patients in the hospitals it serves. Currently, there is less than a one-day supply of blood on the shelves. Type O donors are especially needed because their blood can be transfused to a person of any blood type in an emergency, she noted. To make an appointment to donate, call 294-3362. Walk-ins are also welcome. Whole blood donors must be 17-75 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors also receive a free cholesterol screening.
