Warwick — The Albert Wisner Public Library will commemorate February as Black History month with a poetry reading of “Remember the Bridge: Poems of the People.” The collection of poems written be Carole Boston Weatherford will be read at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the library at 2 Colonial Ave. in Warwick. As the author says: The bridge is men and women, famous and unknown, leaving paths of memories, timeless stepping stones. Weatherford’s subjects are sometimes anonymous (an African woman sold into slavery, a farmer, a basket weaver, a cowboy), and sometimes prominent (Harriet Tubman, Jesse Owens, Martin Luther King Jr.). Those attending may join in reading a poem from the collection. The program is open to adults and young people in grades 6 and up. Following the reading, refreshments will be served. During February the library will also feature displays of music and literature highlighting African American artists and African American history. All of the materials are available for borrowing. All residents of the Warwick Valley Central School district are eligible for library cards, with proof of residency in Warwick, such as a driver’s license or a utility bill. To register, call 986-1047.
