Bellvale — The Bellvale United Methodist Church has been recognized by United Methodist Communications as an official “Welcoming Congregation” for the second year in a row. Out of 1372 United Methodist churches in the state, Bellvale is one of eight to achieve this designation, and the only one to achieve a repeat certification. “Welcoming Congregations” are a select group of United Methodist congregations nationwide that meets criteria, including embracing newcomers and providing opportunities in discipleship. The recognition program is part of a larger effort launched in late 2000 by the denomination’s communications agency, to use modern technology and the common language of television to spread the Good News of Christ to a world in need. Members of Bellvale’s Igniting Ministry team applied for the certification to seek a welcoming lifestyle in the entire congregation. “Open hearts, open minds, open doors” is the theme of the denominational effort, the centerpiece of which is a series of national cable TV advertising. The aim is to invite people to enter into connections with the Christian community as they seek meaning and purpose in their lives. The church is located at 41 Bellvale Lakes Road in Bellvale. Pastor Mary Howell is currently in her fourth year of leading and nurturing the congregation. For more information, call 986-1603, or visit gbgmchurches.gbgm-umc.org/bellvale.
