Baking Club celebrates with flag cake

WARWICK - The Baking Club at the Schervier Pavilion celebrated Independence Day by baking a flag cake. Using blueberries for stars and rows of strawberries against a background of white icing for stripes, the group decorated a rectangular cake to resemble an American flag. “This was fun,” said pavilion resident Maryanne Boehning. “And I think we did a good job.” The Baking Club, which meets every other week, is one of many daily activities available to the residents at Schervier Pavilion, a skilled nursing facility on the Warwick campus of Bon Secours Charity Health System. “We publish a calendar every month that’s filled with interesting and entertaining things to do throughout the day as well as some evenings,” said Kari Call, a certified therapy recreation specialist and director of recreation. “Therapeutic recreation is essential to the quality of life and the quality of care of individuals receiving health and human services at our facility.” For more information call 987-5750 or visit www.StAnthonyCommunityHosp.org.
