Arts and music series at the Florida Farmers' Market

    Florida - Florida Farmers Market enjoyed its first day of the season on June 19 with loads of vegetables, strawberries. cheese and breads. But there is even more to celebrate at the market. Thanks to a grant from Provident Bank, the market also is hosting an “Arts and Music Series” every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. “We thought this would be a great way to bring families to the market,” said Louise Schultz, market coordinator. “It’s a place to hang out and have fun, as well as get top quality produce.” Schultz, along with Carol Dembeck, assistant vice president of Provident Bank, was instrumental in getting the funding to support the series. The Arts and Music Series kicked off at Strawberry Fest with local musician Evan Teatum. The series runs through Aug. 28. Confirmed bookings are: July 10: Mark McKenna n Comic book artist whose credits include Marvel and DC Comics and the likes of The X Men, Spider Man, Batman and the Justice League. July 17: Folk singer songwriter Kathy Moran accompanied by Tom Ryan and Bob Barlow. Aug. 7: Local musician and professional teacher- Mark Sly, accompanied by drummer Mike Hickey (www.slymarkmusic.com). Aug. 21: Will Smith Jazz Trio. Aug. 28: Singer songwriter Sarah Morr. Property owner Alan Mante has allowed the market to take place on his property since inception; Arnold Bieling of Roe Brothers donated the material for the stage.
