Goshen - U.S. Army Sgt. Jonathan “Jon” Cadavero of Tuxedo, who was killed in Iraq on Feb. 27, will be buried today (March 9) in Goshen. Cadavero was serving as a medic with the 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, when his armored Humvee struck a roadside bomb in Baghdad. His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today in the First Presbyterian Church at 33 Park Place in Goshen. The service will be followed by a military burial at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery at 111 Craigville Road in Goshen. His family released the following statement earlier this week: “We are very grateful for all the support we have received from the community. So many of our friends and neighbors have offered their condolences and sympathies. Their caring concern is helping us during this difficult time. “Jon had a deep conviction to serve his country during wartime and proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating cum laude from Columbia Union College, Takoma Park, Maryland, in 2004. He was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, as a medic. “He served his country as lived his life — with commitment, integrity and honor. Everyone in the family is proud of his accomplishments and supported his service to the nation as a soldier. “We were blessed to have Jon as part of our lives. Please keep him and our family in your thoughts and prayers.” Sgt. Cadavero’s obituary appears on page 32.
