Warwick — On Sunday, Oct. 2, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., the Town of Warwick will welcome thousands of visitors to the 23rd annual Applefest. The festival will host hundreds of craft and food vendors, free live stage performances, and rides and amusements for children. A traditional feature of the festival is the annual apple pie baking contest, open to all, in celebration of the bountiful apple harvest in our area. Entries will be judged in two categories: the Junior division for bakers age 16 and under, and the Senior division for those age 17 and older. Entrants must attach a 3x5 index card to their baked pie, including name and phone number, Junior or Senior division, type of apple used, and the recipe ingredients. No pre-registration is needed. Apple pies should be dropped off on the day of Applefest between 8-11:30 a.m. at the new location at 2 Bank St., in front of the attorney’s office. This new location is easier for participants to access when dropping off their pies. When judging is completed at approximately 1 p.m., pies will be sold by the slice. Proceeds from the sale of apple pie slices will go to the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry. For information about the Applefest Apple Pie Contest, call 845-986-4423.
