WARWICK — Considering the recent thunderstorms and the approaching hurricane, the picture-perfect weather, the food, the music and the company couldn’t have been better. On Tuesday, Aug. 23, the Town of Warwick and the Warwick Valley Rotary hosted another annual senior barbecue at the Town’s Union Corners Park. Tickets for the 2010 Senior BBQ were available free of charge to any senior citizen in the Town of Warwick. The traditional summer picnic is billed as a “thank you” for the contributions made by the senior citizens of Warwick. As usual it was a fun day, where community volunteers and elected officials prepared and helped serve a hot dog lunch, full chicken dinner, and dessert. The seniors also enjoyed prizes, raffles and music. The event is supported by local businesses, service organizations and individual volunteers. In addition to county, town and village officials, U.S. Rep Nan Hayworth and Assemblywoman Annie Rabbitt were on hand to greet many of the approximately 800 seniors who attended the event. Anne Coon, senior citizens program coordinator for the Orange County Office of the Aging, also took this opportunity to distribute a questionnaire that would help the agency learn more about the needs of seniors.
