All the news that fits to print from Pine Island Elementary

Playing music at Carnegie Hall The 5th graders from Pine Island had an experience of a lifetime. We went inside Carnegie Hall. We sat on the balcony seats and played four songs on our own recorders with the orchestra: a simple melody, William Tell Overture, Going Home, and Link Up Recorder Concerto. Mr. Rob Kirschke, Mrs. Jenny Augelli, Ms. Cindy Carpentieri and Mrs. Jane Hamburger came along, too. Most of the 5th graders really enjoyed playing their recorders. We had a picnic lunch in the park before the long bus ride back to Pine Island. Moving up Heading to 6th grade! That’s what the Pine Island 5th graders are doing. On June 14 at 7 p.m. at the school, there will be the traditional moving up ceremony. There’s a song (sung by us 5th graders), a poem (read by us), giving back a gift to the school (a cargo net), and most importantly: refreshments. It’s a great way to say goodbye to the 5th graders and the school. Time capsule We’re going back in time! The 2007 Pine Island 5th grade class will help the Pine Island Moving Up Class of 1999 (now High School Seniors) to open up their time capsule that they placed in our school’s new 1999 addition. We will open it at a special reunion event on June 15, 2007. Here’s how it works: the High School Seniors will take out their stuff (popular things from 1999), explain them, and then we will put in our popular things like CD’s, video games or books. The Senior Wildcats also want “to pass down our prestige and responsibility to the younger generation of Wildcub students.” It will be a great way to show how things change over time. It’s also a cool way to show you can keep in touch with important people, places, and teachers from your past.
