    Thrift shop and bake sale WARWICK-Christ Church will be holding a benefit for Katrina survivors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 50 South St. in Warwick. The Thrift Shop at Christ Church, a fixture in the community for over 30 years, will be dedicating its proceeds for the day to survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Shopping hours will be extended for the day. In addition, a bake sale will offer fresh baked pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, and cheesecakes, from the kitchens of the church's many skilled bakers. All proceeds will be earmarked for direct aid to Katrina survivors. For additional information, call 986 n 3440. Warwick business community WARWICK-The Warwick Valley Merchants Guild and the Warwick Independent Business Alliance are sponsoring "Beads of Hope, Beads of Healing," a five-week Mardi Gras-style fund raising effort for survivors of Hurricane Katrina. The event will culminate in a jazz celebration on Sunday, Oct. 16, on Railroad Ave. in Warwick. Participating Warwick merchants and businesses will accept donations, of any amount, in special jars decorated with a Mardi Gras-style mask and beads. Donors will receive Mardi Gras beads to wear in support of the effort. Funds will be collected weekly and deposited in a designated bank account. For more information, call 988-0580 or 987-7600. Employees hold yard sale WARWICK-A multi-family yard sale to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims will be held by the employees of Georgia-Pacific, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 17 Forester Ave., Warwick. All proceeds from the sale will be matched by the Georgia-Pacific Corporation and donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Fund. For more information, call 986-2011 ext. 232.
