Warwick n The Hon. Peter D. Barlet dismissed all charges against Frederick E. Landrigan on Sept. 28 in Warwick Town Court. Frederick was arrested on April 21 by the Warwick Police, and charged with third-degree grand larceny. The arrest occurred after Frederick stopped payment on a $3,834.37 check payable to Leo Kaytes Ford. The check was payment for Ford’s having installed a “remanufactured” engine in Frederick’s 2002 Ford Explorer. The dispute between Frederick and Kaytes arose because of an earlier repair of the car’s transmission, after which Frederick said, the vehicle failed to run properly. Frederick took possession of the car after the repair, and delivered the check on Feb. 26. Later, he stopped payment on the check. After the car stalled several times on the way home, an inspection revealed that various parts of his old engine had been used on the “remanufactured” engine. A subsequent investigation showed that there was a good-faith dispute between Frederick and Kaytes about whether the repair had been done correctly. According to court papers, the district attorney said that the there had been no cause to arrest Frederick or to charge him with a crime. After the Orange County District attorney reviewed the charges against Frederick, he moved to dismiss them, because there was not sufficient evidence to believe that he had committed any crime.
