Ahearn Children's Fund hosts 9th annual golf outing on May 25

Warwick - The Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund will host its 9th annual golf outing at Crystal Springs Golf & Spa Resort in nearby Hamburg, NJ, on Friday, May 25. This year’s “Hole in One” prize is a new car lease. The event marks the start of the organization’s 2007 fund-raising campaign to continue to assist local families in need. More than 250 golfers participate each year. Ninety-six percent of all contributions made to the Brian Ahearn Children’s Fund go directly to local families with children in need. To date, it has distributed more than $425,000, including funding $28,000 in scholarships to college-bound Warwick seniors. The 2007 “Gold Sponsor” is “The Castle Family Fun Center” in Chester. In 1998, Brian Ahearn, 14, the son of Warwick residents Jeff and Kathy Ahearn, lost his battle with cancer. The community, which had been praying against all odds for a miracle, was saddened but soon united to support his family and the Children’s Fund they had established in his name. Today the fund provides assistance to families who are experiencing various hardships such as serious illness of a child, death of a parent or guardian who provides support for the family or those who suffer natural disasters. Past local recipients include a 10-month-old girl with liver cancer, a six-year-old girl suffering from a brain tumor, a family with three children left homeless from a fire and a teenager seriously injured in an auto accident. One recipient once wrote: “Your gift came along as if it were sent down on angel’s wings.” The annual golf outing will be held on the acclaimed Crystal Springs and Wild Turkey courses. Foursomes will play the “best ball” format, with a shotgun start slated for 1 p.m. Tickets for the May 25 outing are $185 per golfer and $60 for those who only wish to attend the dinner-dance.
