‘A sisterhood of mommy patriots' hosts Congressional candidate Nan Hayworth

Westchester County ophthalmologist picks up GOP endorsements as field to challenge Rep. John Hall grows WALLKILL- Nan Hayworth, a Republican candidate for the 19th Congressional District, was the guest speaker last Saturday at a meeting organized by the group “As a Mom” at the Gander Mountain store in the Town of Wallkill. Hayworth is one of the Republican challengers vying for the seat now held by two-term Democrat John Hall. “My goal in Washington is to defend the Constitution and shrink government,” Hayworth said at one point during the two-hour meeting. “I believe we need a Congresswoman who will work to lower taxes, reduce the deficit, create new jobs and stop the takeover of our health care.” Hayworth, a Westchester County ophthalmologist and self-described businesswoman, has maintained a medical practice for seven years in Mt. Kisco, reviewed cases for the State Health Department and worked as medical director for a company in New York. A growing field of candidates may force a Republican primary in September. Orange County GOP Chairman William DeProspo and Thomas DeChiaro of Mahopac both said they are considering a run. Former Tuxedo Park Mayor David McFadden has announced; so has Neil Di Carlo of Putnam County. In Orange, Hayworth already has lined up endorsements from some prominent Republicans, including Warwick Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton and Orange County Legislator Al Buckbee. Her campaign manager, John Hicks, is the former chairman of the Orange County GOP. The Orange County chapter of the “As a Mom” organization that has a New York State membership of almost 2,000 with more than 55,00 nationwide. According to its Web site, the group is “A Sisterhood of Mommy Patriots.”
