A new look and menu for DeMarco's
WEST MILFORD Although West Milford has it’s share of pizzerias, one particular owner is trying his hardest to make his stand alone. Second generation owner Lou Muto of DeMarco’s Restaurant, has recently put tremendous effort into the menu and decor of his establishment. Originally started by his father, Silvio Muto and partner Tom DeMaggio, the restaurant has been around for 26 years. The entire family has had a hand in running the pizzeria for a better part of their lifetimes. Lou was born on a Monday and by the following Saturday, his mom was working in the kitchen and Lou accompanied her there as an infant. Lou’s father, Silvio, who was originally from Cutro, Italy, is now primarily running Silvio’s Italian Villa in Warwick which has been is business for 13 years. The torch has now been handed down to Lou, who is determined to add a new feel to the restaurant. Lou has changed the look to convey a sense of Tuscan. With Italian music playing in the background and the fragrance spilling out from the kitchen, you can close your eyes and almost hear the Mediterranean Sea. His recipes include old world family favorites from Sicily and Calibria. The chefs only use fresh herbs and tomatoes flown in from a small vineyard in California which, according to Muto, are the closest to a true Italian tomato. He is very picky with all his ingredients and says substitutes don’t work. Patrons can bring their own wine to the restaurant. There are daily blackboard specials in addition to the regular menu and the kitchen will accommodate special orders. A great room provides a place for private parties, meetings or seminars. DeMarco’s is open seven days a week until 10 p.m. during the week and 11 p.m. on weekends. Customers are encouraged to use the free internet service or enjoy their favorite game on the TV. Homemade desserts include tiramisu, canoli, spumoni, (mom’s recipe) and ice cream for the children. There is a delivery service for businesses, which is quite popular with the locals. DeMarco’s also offers a healthy pie loaded with vegetables, and the original stuffed pie was made at DeMarcos first. The homemade personal pizzas and calzones are worth waiting for. If you have been to Demarco’s in the past, you owe it to yourself to revisit and get a feel for the new ambiance. Lou personally greets his guests when he’s at the restaurant and has great concern for customer satisfaction. Located in the A&P/Sears shopping mall, it’s easy to find one of West Milford’s treasures.
