Monroe firefighters rescue woman from house fire

    MONROE — At 8:44 Sunday evening, Feb. 19, the Monroe Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire at 70 Carol Drive.
    Fire Chief Dan Bennet said the first arriving Monroe apparatus encountered heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-family home.
    The first arriving Monroe engine forced entry and started to attack the fire.
    Firefighters arriving shortly after on Monroe FD’s ladder truck began to conduct a primary search for any trapped occupants.
    Bennet said firefighters Troy Schettig and Chris Cocks located an unconscious unresponsive woman in the hallway on the second floor. The woman was removed from the building and was turned over to EMS.
    The patient was later flown to a local area hospital for further treatment.
    The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Orange County Fire Investigation Unit.
    Monroe Fire Department was assisted on scene by Chester, Greenwood Lake, Tuxedo, Warwick and Woodbury fire while South Blooming Grove and Goshen were on standby in Monroe.
    Also assisting was Monroe EMS, Kiryas Joel EMS, the State Police and the Orange County Office of the Fire Coordinator.
    Firefighters were on scene from 8:45 p.m. until midnight.
