WARWICK n In tribute of their recent 60th wedding anniversary and for contributions to the community, the Village of Warwick and the Town of Warwick will honor longtime residents Ed and Phyllis Klein on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Warwick Town Hall. The public is invited to attend the half-hour reception in the lobby which begins at 7 p.m. before to the regular Town Board meeting. The Kleins met in 1946 when Phyllis went to work as an editor for Ed’s newspaper, The Home News in Oakhurst, N.J. They married on Sept. 12, 1947, at the home of Ed’s parents in Deal, N.J. and the rest, as they say is history. Several newspapers later, in 1962, the couple decided on a move from the Jersey shore. The Warwick Advertiser was for sale and when they saw the beautiful view of the Warwick Valley from the top of Mount Peter, they fell in love with the place and the deal was made. Over the decades, the Kleins worked side by side as the newspaper business expanded to include several area editions of the paper. Although he later sold The Warwick Advertiser, Klein started WTBQ radio in 1969 and later founded Warwick Cable Corp. In 1986, while also working on a variety of corporate publications, he started The Hudson Valley Business Journal, which was sold in 2000. Phyllis, an active member of the Warwick Art League, discovered quilting and in the early 1980s, founded the Warwick Valley Quilt Guild and produced major quilting seminars. Ed, who published his autobiography, At Least Nobody’s Shooting at Me, is still actively writing for both The Senior Gazette and the Business Journal. “The Kleins have given so much back to the area,” says Warwick Village Mayor Michael Newhard, “and when we heard that it was their 60th wedding anniversary, we wanted to note that landmark event with a proclamation from the Village.” Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton agreed and suggested having a special reception before the Town Board meeting. “Both Ed and Phyllis have each uniquely contributed to our Town,” added Sweeton. “And we are proud to be able to honor them in this way.” The Town will also honor the Kleins with a proclamation that evening. The couple’s children include Don, of Los Angeles, a marine electrician; Claudia, of Lake Worth, Fla., a sculptor and Pip of Florida, a musician and the director of the Goshen Chamber Orchestra. The family gathered Oct. 6 at the Chateau Hathorn to toast their 60 years together.
