VFW to continue Eagle Scout's project to support Wounded Warrior Program

Monroe resident Jeffrey Korn, a member of Washingtonville Boy Scout Troop 416, recently achieved his Eagle Scout ranking when he completed his Eagle Scout project to support the U.S. Army’s Wounded Warrior Program. As part of the project, Korn contacted local companies and asked them to donate items which would then be distributed via the USO to soldiers at Walter Reed Army Hospital and Bethesda Naval Center. In total, $5,000 in donated items was secured by Korn and distributed to soldiers. When soldiers return to stateside hospitals, they often lack basic clothing items like underwear, T-shirts, socks and toiletries. As part of his project, Korn fulfilled the USO’s request to collect DVDs and microwaveable popcorn to help with its Movie Night program to entertain soldiers and their families. Though Korn completed his project, the Washingtonville Memorial VFW Post 8691 in Salisbury Mills was so impressed with Korn’s work that it is now accepting donations to the Wounded Warrior Program. Interested people can drop off items like underwear, socks and toiletries to the VFW hall, located on 2178 Route 94, and the VFW will make sure those items are sent to the USO for distribution.
