TUXEDO PARK-Katie LeForte, a senior at George F. Baker High School in Tuxedo, has accepted a nomination to the United States Military Academy at West Point as a member of the class of 2009. She will report for cadet basic training at Camp Buckner on June 27. LeForte's lifelong ambition to attend West Point and embark on a career in the United States Army was encouraged by her experiences growing up in a military family. She has traveled through Korea, Australia, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and much of the continental United States. LeForte was valedictorian of the 2005 senior class. An avid reader, a competitive soccer player, and a member of the National Honor Society, she was the Captain of the Varsity Girls Soccer Team and co-chairperson of the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony this year. For the past two years she has been a member of the Times Herald Record AllStar 2nd team for soccer and has also been active on the school's rowing club, yearbook, and senior committee, as well as a member of the U17 Monroe United Magic Girls Soccer Team. She lives in Tuxedo with her parents, Laurie Barone and Joseph LeForte, and siblings Joe and Kristen LeForte.
