Students named scholarship finalists

GOSHEN — Alice F. Ford and Lauren E. Liria, seniors at Goshen High School, were named finalists in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Competition. Ford and Liria are among approximately 15,000 scholastically-talented high school seniors who now have an opportunity to continue in the competition. Approximately 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards, worth more than $33 million, will be offered this spring. For the past four years, Ford has participated in the high school drama and musical. She is a member of the chorus, National Honor Society, National Foreign Language Honor Society, and the softball team. Ford was selected for All-County and Area All-State for chorus, and works part-time as a clerk at Baxter’s pharmacy in Goshen. Ford will major in math when she attends college in the fall, and plans on pursuing a career in medicine. She is the daughter of Mary Ford and Patrick Flynn of Goshen. Liria has also been bit by the acting bug, and performs in the high school drama and musical. She is a member of National Honor Society, and is the vice president of the National Foreign Language Honor Society. She is a member of the chorus, and was selected for All-County, Area All-State, and All-State. Liria plans on pursuing her education at Boston University. She is the daughter of Ketty and Peter Liria of Campbell Hall.
