Sister Margaret Murphy joins SUNY Orange board of trustees

Middletown William Richards, president of Orange County Community College, has announce the appointment of Sister Margaret Murphy to the SUNY Orange board of trustees. From 2000 to 2004, Murphy served as chairperson of the philosophy and religious studies program at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh. Prior to that, she spent more than twelve years with Pius XII in a number of positions, including the Youth and Family Services Division and Early Learning Center. Sister Peggy, as she is usually called, has been a faculty member at a number of institutions of higher education, including Mount Saint Mary College, Orange County Community College, Dominican College, and Marist College. She is a representative for health for the Orange County Family Court PEACE Program, chairperson of the scholarship committee for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County, and board member for the Orange County Child Care Council. Murphy has won numerous awards, including the New York Senate Women of Distinction Award in 2002, the Middletown Lion Club Knight of the Blind Award in 2001, and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Award in 1999 by the Orange County Human Rights Commission. She was appointed Gov. George Pataki,and her term will expire in June of 2010.
