Seward senior class president steps up

Florida —At Florida’s S.S. Seward High School, there is a senior class president that will not accept mediocrity. Eight-year High Honor Roll veteran Melissa Sciorra has truly earned her way to the upper echelons of school government. No stranger to charity and fundraising for worthy causes, when she saw her class in need, she did something about it. As part of her presidential duties, Sciorra analyzed the senior class budget as well as the effectiveness of the class’s fundraising efforts and found some very disappointing results. At the current rate of fiscal growth, the 2008 Senior Class just might have enough money to have their graduation party at Chucky Cheese’s. It appeared that the fundraising efforts (or lack of effort) resulted in less than desirable revenue generation. Sciorra found this to be completely unacceptable. She realized that nobody took the initiative to help the senior class in its fundraising efforts and decided to grab the bull by the horns and make a difference. In addition to her busy schedule of full-time student, charity Big Sister, 13-year Silver and Bronze Award-Winning Girl Scout (yes, she’s working on the Gold) and Volleyball Team Captain, Sciorra has worked part-time at Florida’s Copper Bottom Restaurant for over three years. It was here that she saw an opportunity to help the senior class. She approached owner Mark Scott in an attempt to join forces and help raise money for her class. “With Melissa’s professionalism and superior work ethic, my decision was simple,” said Scott. Sciorra and Scott prepared a proposal to present to the senior class advisor, Lynn McGovern, who liked the pitch so much, she called The Copper Bottom the very next day to schedule a date. As a result of Sciorra’s efforts, the senior class has raised over $1000 in just one night, more than doubling their resources.
