Warwick - On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, Warwick Police Officer Ron Donnatin and Sgt. John Rader were traveling to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to participate in a special drug enforcement program. Just outside the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, they witnessed the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, watching in horror as the second airplane struck the tower. Soon afterwards, they were deputized and served with the New York City Police until the following day. At a brief ceremony held at Warwick Town Hall on Dec. 8, Police Chief Thomas McGovern Jr. presented the officers with special “WTC Awards” for their extraordinary service while helping restore order in New York City in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.
