    William H. Frees Jr., a former longtime resident of Monroe, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014, at his home in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

    The son of William H. Frees Sr. and the late Agnes Stern Frees, he was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Augusta, Me.

    William was a retired lineman with AT&T of Suffern.

    He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Monroe and a former member of American Legion Post #488 of Monroe.

    He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War.

    Survivors include his wife Dawn M. Campbell Frees of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; his son James W. Frees and his wife Claudia of Harriman; his daughters: Cheryl Rooney of Middletown, Linda Diaz and her husband Ralph of Newburgh and Lori Montuori and her husband Patrick of Warwick; his brother George Frees of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and his eight grandchildren: Tomas, Lindsay, Brian, Derek, Danielle, Michael, Julia and Collin.

    Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.

    A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 21 Still Road, Monroe.

    Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
