Walter Frey

Walter Frey of Warwick passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018.
He was born on July 22, 1931, in Endicott to Donald and Hetty (Avery) Frey.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Walt served in Europe during the Cold War. He later worked for IBM in Minnesota and New York. He retired from IBM Sterling Forest in 1987.
In retirement, he gave his time to the American Legion in Warwick, Retired & Senior Volunteers Program of Orange County and AARP tax services for seniors.
He also enjoyed touring on his BMW motorcycle, fishing, and hunting.
Walt traveled with his wife of 63 years, Lore, and his grandchildren, with whom he shared many adventures.
Known for his wit and sense of humor, he arranged an annual family reunion at Virginia Beach that became a 28-year-long tradition.
Walt is survived by his wife; his daughter Carol and her husband Mark, and his son Norman and his wife Daryl. He has seven grandchildren: Terri and her husband Matt, Sean and his wife Lori, Kirsten and her husband Wade, Michael and his fiancée Jewell, Tim and his fiancée Daryl, Paul and his fiancée Stacy, and Elin and her husband Tom. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
A visitation and remembrance were held at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home on Dec. 12.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to a charity of the donor's choice.
