Violet May Lust

    Violet May Lust of Pine Island passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at home. She was 88 and was a longtime resident of the area.

    The daughter of William Crum and Rose Talmadge, she was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Sussex County, N.J.

    Violet retired from Valley View Infirmary in Goshen. Before that she worked in the family’s apple and peach orchard.

    Violet was a loving mother and grandmother and a kind person to all that knew her.

    She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pine Island.

    She is survived by her two children: Dr. Kenneth F. Gray and wife Dawn of Birmingham, Ala. and Dixie Putkowski and her husband Leonard of Pine Island; four grandchildren: Mark Putkowski and his wife Lisa of Pine Island, Joanne Fairweather and her husband Richard of Sussex, N.J., Kenneth Gray Jr. and his wife Elsy of Birmingham, Ala., and Bret Gray, also of Birmingham, Ala; five great-grandchildren: Sarah and Samantha Fairweather, Leah and Andrew Putkowski and Zachary Gray; brother Sidney Crum and his wife Virginia of Hamburg, N.J.; many nieces and nephews; her dog and close companion Barney; and her best friend Marie Schmick of the state of Florida.

    Her family’s statement reads: “Mom, Gram, we will all miss you deeply and you will always be in our thoughts.”

    Violet was predeceased by her husband Clifford J. Lust, son Ronald Gray and her three sisters, Jenny Babcock, Margaret Connor and Sarah Shauger.

    Visitation was scheduled to be held Monday, Dec. 17, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route# 1, Pine Island.

    Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Little York Road, Warwick.

    Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Warwick.

    The family would like to thank all the Hospice workers who made Violet’s last days comfortable.
