Stanley Schultz

| 30 Mar 2012 | 12:54

Stanley Schultz, the beloved son of William and Josephine Galus Schultz, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at his home in Pine Island. He was 92.

He was of that rare breed: He was a giver. He gave unconditionally of his time to his family, his church, his community, his country.

He served proudly and honorably as a SeaBee during World War II.

His contributions to the community, too numerous to mention, include: Membership in the St. Stanislaus Holy Name Society; active, ongoing involvement in PLAV Post #16 since 1946 (including stints as post commander); participation in the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, starting with his role as a founding member when the chapter was first created; membership in the Town of Warwick Recreation Commission; active involvement with the Boy Scouts of America; volunteer work with the Castle Point hospitalized veterans (a passion to which he was committed until he could no longer drive).

His children learned from him not facts but truths, not theory but wisdom, not how to think but how to live.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara Ratynski Schultz; his daughter Rosalind Schultz Becker and her son Joshua; his son Leon and his wife Lisa and son Brian; his “adopted” family Fran Gallardo and her children Danny and Francesca, who served as devoted caregivers in his final days. He also leaves behind a sister, Wanda Kondrat.

He was predeceased by six siblings.

He has been a shining example of a life well lived and for that we will forever be grateful.

A funeral Mass was celebrated March 31 at St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island. The Rev. Joseph Tokarczyk officiated.

Burial followed in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Funeral arrangements have been under the direction of the T.S. Purta Funeral Home. To send a condolence online, please go to www.purtafuneralhome.com.
