Sophie Helene Kurnath
Sophie Helene Kurnath of Warwick entered into rest on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Schervier Pavilion in Warwick. She was 97.
The daughter of Jacobus and Anna Kowalczyk Wojcik, she was born March 21, 1916, in Marstellar, Pa.
She is survived by her son, Lawrence Kurnath and wife Catherine of Warwick; grandson Daniel Kurnath of Warwick and granddaughter Caitlin Kurnath of Warwick; two sisters: Julie Anszperger of Medfield, Mass., and Irene Lewandowski of Garfield, N.J., as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emil Francis Kurnath.
Sophie grew up in Garfield, N.J,. where she attended St. Stanislaus School. In the 1930’s and 1940’s she played basketball for the school and church girl’s teams.
Sophie was a great sister to her three brothers andseven sisters. She loved her grandchildren Dan and Caitlin. She was a great mother to her son Larry and to his wife Cathy. She was a beloved aunt to her many nephews and nieces. She loved her husband Emil and enjoyed playing golf with him during their retirement in Florida, where she recorded a hole-in-one at the Indian Creek Golf Club.
She was a good neighbor, and a good friend to all in Garfield, Clifton, East Paterson and Jupiter, and will be sorely missed by all that knew her.
There will be no visitation.
A funeral mass will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at St. Stanislaus Church in Pine Island.
