Richard Silfee

Richard Silfee, a native of Moscow, Pa., and a longtime resident of Warwick, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 19, 2017.
Born on Oct. 18, 1941, in Nicholson, Pa., he was the son of Everett and Gwendolyn (Owens) Silfee.
Richard received a BA in Business Education from Henderson College in Arkansas and a MS in Guidance from the University of Scranton.
He was a business teacher at Warwick Valley High School from 1972 to 1998. His former students found him to be a compassionate mentor. Many of these students have kept in contact with him and are grateful for the influence he had on their lives.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Mesaris), of 32 years; his daughter, Audra Cutler, and her husband, William, and his grandson, Liam, of Warwick; his brothers, Jerry, Everett and his wife, Ruth, and Kevin, all of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, the Rev. William Silfee.
Richard was a talented gardener, cook and shopper. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends and most recently making happy memories with his grandson, Liam.
Visitation was held June 22 at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Warwick.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 23, at the funeral home.
Cremation will be private.
