Raymond Bigert
Raymond Bigert of Pine Island, a retired machinist and toolmaker for Picatinny Arsenal, died on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. He was 80.
Son of the late Henry J. Bigert Sr. and Julia S. Daios Bigert, he was born April 29, 1934, in Pine Island.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Bernadette “Bernie” Bigert, at home; two daughters, Theresa Bernhardsen and husband, David, of Warwick, and Denise Madura and husband, Christopher, of Slate Hill; three grandchildren, Jason Bernhardsen and Shana and Brooke Madura; five sisters, Dorothy Wright and husband, Arthur, of Dunnellon, Fla., Irene Wilk of Flemington, N.J., Victoria Myruski and husband, Lewis, of Goshen, Julia Gorczynski of Garfield, N.J., and Patricia Crowe and husband, Michael, of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Henry Bigert Jr.
Visitation was scheduled for 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 690 County Route 1, Pine Island. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Orange County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
