Phyllis Doreen Harris

Phyllis Doreen Harris of New Hampton (and formerly of Government Hill, St. Michael, Bridgetown, Barbados) entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013. She was 90 years old.
Born June 29, 1923 in Bridgetown, Barbados, she was the daughter of Percy and Anne (Branker) Blackman.
She was the widow of James Henry Harris (2008).
Her family's statement reads: “For ninety years, she lived a serene life of the 'Proverb Woman,' always interceding to God on behalf of her husband and seven children. Her passing was just a reflection of the way she lived. Phyllis drifted off into eternal rest on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, around 6:30 p.m., surrounded by family members gathered at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, N.Y. As much as we tried to cling onto the wings of this angelic soul, she got one glimpse of her heavenly home, bid us farewell and took flight."
A homemaker, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Warwick and a former deaconess for the Ivy Hill Church of God Church in Bridgetown, Barbados.
She is survived by her children: Tyra James and her husband Kenneth of Goshen; Barbara Nnaemeka and her husband Frank of London, England; Amber Harris of New Hampton; Joseph Harris and his wife Pauline of Bridgetown, Barbados; Winifred Schaeffer and her husband Jay of Queens; Heather Harris and her husband James Thomas of Brooklyn; and Esther Harris of Port Jervis. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Elizabeth (Trevor), Berch (Valerie), Sean (Paulette), Randy (Lisa), Remi, Nicole, Trisha, Semper, Tochi, Cheka, Marc, Curtis and Vivian; 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. A funeral service will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
