Paul J. Piekara

Paul J. Piekara of Monroe passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017 at Northern Riverview Healthcare Center in Haverstraw. He was 89 years old.
The son of Joseph and Rose Zietek Piekara, he was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Monroe.
Paul was a retired plant manager with Highland Telephone Co. formerly of Monroe.
Paul was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church of Monroe, a member of Monroe-Woodbury Rotary, a veteran of the U.S. Army, longtime volunteer firefighter with Excelsior Hose Company No. 1 in Warwick and a member of AARP.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Sophie Piekara, at home; his son Thomas P. Piekara and his wife Teresa of Westport, Conn.; and his two grandchildren: Charlotte and Jonas.
Visitation was held Nov. 21 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home in Monroe.
After Thanksgiving, a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 24, at Sacred Heart Church, 26 Still Road, Monroe.
Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Pine Island.
