Nicholas Zis of Florida, N.Y., a retired computer analyst for AT&T, entered into rest on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. He was 91.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in both World War II and Korea on the USS Wasp and the YMS199 Mine Sweeper, where he was a Radar Technician.
The son of Sarandos and Ellen Zis, he was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Chicago, Ill.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Alice Jane McSherry Zis, at home; sons Nicholas P. Zis and wife Cheryl, Christopher Zis and Thomas Zis and wife Anne Marie; grandchildren: Kimberly Cretaro and husband Jordan, Andrew Zis and wife Brittany and Rebecca Zis; great grandchildren: Jacob and James Cretaro; brother Robert Zis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters Sophie Vassalo, Demetra Vassalo and Helen DeCunzo; and brothers George Zis and Evangelos “Sonny” Zis.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 14, from 1 to 4 p.m. at T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 15, at St. Joseph Church, 20 Glenmere Ave., Florida.
Cremation will be held privately and burial will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
