Ms. Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Agnes Schmitt

Ms. Elizabeth “Betty” Agnes Schmitt of Warwick died April 22, 2025, at Garnet Health Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill. She was 85.

She was born Sept. 24, 1939, in Paterson, N.J. She was the daughter of John Schmitt and Elizabeth Kinney Schmitt.

Betty retired as an administrator for A&P Corporations in West Paterson, N.J.

She received a Computer Science degree from William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J.

She was an avid traveler in her younger years and more recently enjoyed the company of her friends in the Warwick Senior Club. She was a parishioner of St. Stephen the First Martyr Church in Warwick.

She will always be remembered for never forgetting a special occasion for any of her family, loving a fun celebration and her contagious laugh and good humor. She was strong, independent and a keeper of the family heritage.

Surviving are her three beloved siblings: Rita McGrath and her husband Richard of Warwick, Veronica Gerum of Easton, Pa., and Paul Schmitt and his wife Nancy of Parowan, Utah; 11 cherished nieces and nephews: Karen Artuyo, Janice Ervin, Christine Lunford, Robert Walker, Marjorie Cass, Susan McGrath-Brooks, Elaine Engel, John Schmitt Jr., Scott Gerum, Kris Gerum and Shawn Gerum; and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Betty was predeceased by her loving sister Mary Waddell, brother John Schmitt Sr., and brothers-in-law Charles “Chuck” Gerum and Jerry Waddell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen The First Martyr Church, 75 Sandfordville Road, Warwick.

A burial of ashes will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Clifton, N.J., at a later date.
