'Mrs. A' - Lucy Sicari Abbatine

Lucy Abbatine passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at home in Monroe surrounded by loved ones after her final battle with cancer.
Lucy was born in the Bronx and married her childhood sweetheart Anthony while he served in the Korean War with the U.S. Navy. They moved to Monroe in 1970.
Lucy and Tony owned and operated Abbatine Printing in Monroe.
Together they were very active in the community at St. Anastasia Church, Monroe-Woodbury Little League, American Legion Mulligan Eden Post and Lake Region Italian-American Association.
After Tony’s sudden death at a very early age, Lucy worked at Harriman Heights School and Pine Tree School where she adored the children and they adored her.
She was a volunteer at Arden Hill Hospital in Goshen and a dispatcher for Monroe Volunteer Ambulance.
The past 15 years she was a very popular figure at Frozen Ropes in Chester, where she was loved by young and old alike. Always pleasant and helpful, she was affectionately called “The Matriarch of Frozen Ropes.”
She will be greatly missed.
Lucy adored her children and their beautiful families. She is survived by her children: Donna Vitolo and her husband Ralph of Monroe, Anthony Abbatine and his wife Tammy of Warwick, Christine Franklin and her husband Matt of Wooster, Ohio, and Steven Abbatine and his wife Dora of Ashland, Mass. In addition to her children, she is survived by her eight grandchildren: Anthony and Michael Vitolo, Micaela and Anthony Abbatine, Carter and Courtney Franklin, Nicole and Gianna Abbatine; and her great-granddaughter, Jordyn Vitolo. She is also survived by her sisters Gloria daCunha and her husband Manny and Lidia Watrud, and many nieces and nephews.
Lucy was predeceased by her parents Serafina and Giuseppe Sicari and her sister Connie Tuccillo.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at St. Anastasia Parish Church, Route 17M, Harriman.
Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, with interment in Orange County Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
A special THANK YOU to Vanessa Brown and Evett Wisdom who lovingly cared for mom during her final days.
