Madison Jennings of Warwick (and formerly of the Bronx) passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Schervier Pavilion after a short illness. He was 78 years old.

Born Sept. 12, 1934, in Halifax, Va., he was the son of Ernest and Emma (Ewell) Jennings.

On May 26, 1956, Madison married the love of his life, Sylvia Garnier-Jennings. During their time together, they had three amazing children.

“He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Madison was a family man helping to raise many young family members and friends. He touched the lives of everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting him. He was known as the ‘Mayor of Flowick Deli’ from greeting all who entered to make coffee. Madison will be held closely in our hearts forever.”

Madison was a demolition supervisor with Invirex Demolition Company in Huntington Station on Long Island for 40 years. He was a member of the Mill Stone Baptist Church in Halifax, Va.

He was a grass roots member of the United Neighbors Integration through Education and Democracy in the Bronx and was a member of the Warwick Democratic Club. He organized youth sports in his neighborhood in the Bronx.

Madison is survived by his wife Sylvia of Warwick; two sons: Madison Jennings Jr. of Warwick and Steven E. Jennings of Warwick; daughter Dawn Jennings-Trone and her husband Scott of Warwick. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Varick Ward (Angela) , Sydney McCall, Justin Trone(Christine), Cass Trone, Alia Trone, Samantha Jennings and Sabrina Jennings; and five great-grandchildren: Sophia and Carter Trone, Varick Ward, Andre Ward, and Kiona Hoyen, Ellayhnia McCall; a sister, Ella Lambert; brothers: Haywood Jennings (Amy) and Ray Jennings; sisters-in-law Gaynell Logan of Virginia, Julie Whitsett of Atlanta and Arlene Sifflet of California; cousin Rose Dunklin (Al) and a host of other cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Emma and Ernest, his daughter Ella Ward, brother Ernest, and his cousin who was more a brother to him, Adolphus Logan.

Funeral services will take place 11 a.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 95 Kings Highway, Warwick. Interment will be in Warwick Cemetery.
