Lucille Lurye

Lucille Lurye of Warwick and formerly of East Northport, passed away peacefully at home with her family and faithful dog, Raynebeau, on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014. She was 87 years old.

Born on Oct. 8, 1926, in New York City, she was the only child of Irving and Bell (Fleisig) Rabinowitz.

She was married to Philip Lurye (1996).

Lucille served with the U.S. Navy during World War II as a civilian in coding.

A homemaker, she was known as “Mama Lu” to many. She was a lover of animals, loved music, was a wonderful cook, enjoyed traveling, having fun and being with her family.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia Dempster and her husband David of Warwick; her son Richard Lurye and his wife Diane of Rockville, Md.; her daughter Seleste Wallace and her husband Nelson of Poughkeepsie; her son Garth Lurye and his wife Mary Beth of Amity Harbor; five grandchildren: Benjamin, Rebecca, Sarah, Nelson and Harrison.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 10, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., followed by interment in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton on Long Island.
