Leon Stanley “'Cussy' Matuszewski

Leon Stanley “Cussy” Matuszewski of Florida, N.Y., a retired director of building services for Horton Hospital in Middletown, entered into rest on Friday, Nov. 03, 2017. He was 83.
The son of Teofil Matuszewski and Blanche Szelka Matuszewski, he was born Dec. 4, 1933, in Florida, N.Y.
He was a U.S. Navy Korean veteran where he was a corpsman. He was member of the American Legion Post 1250, Florida, and a member of Seward Seniors.
Cussy enjoyed playing his daily poker games with his pals at their “private casino” spot.
He was also a past president of the Florida Cemetery Association.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty Crookston Matuszewski; son Kenneth Matuszewski and his wife Kim; son Mark Matuszewski; granddaughter Samantha Matuszewski; brother Conrad Matuszewski and his wife Karen of Missouri; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Gary Matuszewski; eight brothers: Carl, Edward, Joseph, John, Alvin, Felix, Daniel and Antone Matuszewski; and four sisters: Stella, Frances, Stella and Helen.
Memorial visitation was held Nov. 7 at T.S. Purta Funeral Home. Legion services also were will at the funeral home that evening.
Memorial service was held Nov. 8 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in O.C. Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Goshen.
